All tours include the following features, but there are options available
as to how you plan your tour.
Bayview Chicory Kiln and tearoom.
- Close up encounters with koalas.
- Sightings of echidnas, wading birds and birds of prey. Possible sighting
of the rare white bellied sea eagle or a glimpse of a snake.
- Information about the potoroos which are here in abundance, but rarely
seen due to being nocturnal.
- Stop to view wildflowers and orchids in season.
- Coastal walk near the National Park campsite at Fairhaven.
- Delicious Devonshire tea in the 1890's Bayview Chicory Kiln
tearoom with freshly baked scones and jams made
from French Island grown
fruit.
- Children's time to pat and feed the friendly farm animals.
- Bayview's remote area power system.
- History talk on the kiln and the Island's past chicory industry and prison
life at the former the McLeod prison farm. Many items of memorabilia are on display.
- Time to look at the Island's heavy goods and vehicle transport barge.
- Call into the General store where locally produced goodies and handcrafts are
for sale.
- Three accommodation venues are seen during the tour. The Tortoisehead
